Moving from Google Analytics to Microsoft adCenter Analytics for SharePoint reports

 Categories:

This weekend I have started migrating my site analytics from Google Analytics to adCenter. Why? Call it patriotism;-)

The tracking script is added to the master page just the same as was required for Google Analytics. I then excluded the "source" parameter from the reports (this is the return url used if you select cancel from a list item detail page).

It is also easy to differentiate out going links as page referrals or download referrals for different links by adding an onclick javascript function to the url (easy to do in a Data View web part). This is a nice feature for wssdemo.com as most of the resources refer to content on other sites and now I can get reports on the click through rather than just the resource page view.

There is also a cool Treemap Traffic View to see how your site is being used

Only 1 day's data collected at the moment but the results look good so far. You can find out more here...

MS ACA does have some very nice features. I've been using it for some time now and trully love the automatic outbound link tracker. Google only does this when the other website has the GA tracker installed. Go Microsoft!!
