I spent today upgrading my last WSS 3.0 Beta2TR server to RTM

The site has been in production since the day beta 2 was released (I just couldn't help myself).
It is a Church Management System (another type of CMS) and is very extensive.

Following my own upgrade guidelines, I wanted to restore a backup of the current site onto a new server. This required installing B2TR on another server (which happened to also have a backup of the original WSS v2 site that was migrated to v3 B2.

The first problem I had with the slipstream install was that it failed at the wYukon install. Turns out that I had installed and removed B2 from this server but the wYukon instance was left behind even though it was not listed in the control panel it was a running service. So I had to refer to this KB to uninstall it. http://www.wssdemo.com/redir.aspx?id=860

The setup now ran fine and I selected the no-upgrade (run side by side) option as all I want was a working version of v3 B2TR so tha I could restore the backup from the production server. The problem was that the psconfig utility was failing because it was trying to migrate the config db from my v2 install. This is really a bug but the work around was simply to edit the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\WSS with the UpgradeType value of CLEAN_INSTALL

All working now :-)
